More useful; it has a Soldier behind it; and a Wire Cutter, when combined with sheath.

I'm shopping for an original G3 bayonet. They must think these things are gold plated.

$60 is the best price I can find w/sheath. That is though, NOS, so I guess I can't complain too much.

The M4 bayonet seems useless, except as some kind of last ditch thing. I guess if you were totally overrun, it would be a good idea to put one on. Might be quicker to stab someone than try to make a mag change if things got all crazy and visibility went to ****.

At least the Marine bayonet makes a good quality knife when not in use for bayonetting. Seems like a better strategy than the poker thing the Army uses.

Knives are important tools, so having a solid knife is a good idea.

Lewis Millet used one in the last bayonet charge of the US Army in Korea.

    http://www.pbs.org/weta/americanvalo...s/millett.html

He was a fixture at Southern California military events a few decades ago. Fortunate enough to meet him. My Company Commander recommended About Face and LM was mentioned in it.

    Official Citation:
Captain Millett, Company E, distinguished himself by conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty in action. While personally leading his company in an attack against a strongly held position he noted that the 1st Platoon was pinned down by small-arms, automatic, and antitank fire. Captain Millett ordered the 3d Platoon forward, placed himself at the head of the two platoons, and, with fixed bayonet, led the assault up the fire-swept hill. In the fierce charge Capt. Millett bayoneted two enemy soldiers and boldly continued on, throwing grenades, clubbing and bayoneting the enemy, while urging his men forward by shouting encouragement.

I wish they made a K.98k length bayonet for the G3. That would be an attention getter.

I certainly is on the K.98k

I never used the rat... but a sand bag beats a fist in any fight and you would be amazed the velocity you can get up when it seems like the thing to do plus it made an Ali punch look like a love tap.

This must be one of the threads where I missed out on all of the cool times. I will be frank, a bayonet is about the only after market thing I ever let hang off my weapons. I'll go with Lawcop on this because yes, long pointy things off the end of a barrel will get noticed!!!

Most of the bayonets I have ever handled or used just didn't have the blade quality for what I considered my missions to be. The grind was wrong, the steel wasn't up to par and the balance sucked.

Yeah, you could stick someone with one but not as effectively or efficiently as some other choices.

But in a balls to the wall hand to hand live or die I would find a way to stick and kill you with a rat or a sand bag.

    Call me Bayonet Guy.

When confronted with 6 unarmed crazies one will be crazy enough to charge you even if you're armed, once they've worked themselves up. Odds are one will reach you.

With your friend Mr. Bayonet (especially a long spiky one) it is possible to put said crazies to flight with a few aggressive stabs below the waist (thigh, crotch, belly button).

As they flee give one a round in the dooky hole.

I make a point of carrying a rifle in my trunk. What if the shtf while you're at Homedepot and you have to drive 20 miles home through GKW? What if they are stopping vehicles and impounding weapons?

I don't want them taking one of my first line rifles, and I wouldn't leave one in my trunk - so this trunk gun is a cheap military bolt with a bayonet. If the 20 rounds I stow with it go bad I still have the pigsticker.

ABOVE and beyond all of what has been posted, it has psychological value far beyond its reach or value just by being there.
At some point in their lives, EVERYBODY has been CUT,
    not everybody has been shot.
They do NOT want to get cut again.
