  • City Spider's & Sewer Rats

A few question's For those in the know about natural edibles in a city enviroment, when saying city i mean inner city and its close municipalities.

First one pertaining to City Insects, ive been doing some research and found that most insects are edible and provide protein and vital vitamins.
example grass hoppers have SIX-times the protein than Cod or lean beef,
Crickets are loaded with Calcium and honey bees have Vitamin & D.

My question is are there any hazardous little creatures?,flies and City not
Country roaches come to mind, and anything near Highly polluted areas.

Second is say a filthy sewer rat edible? after proper butchering and cooking ofcourse.Small Game is very abundant in the city I know with
    all the Dogs,Cats,raccoons,squirrels,chipmunks,pidgeons etc.

Any additional info or links would be appreciated, and if anybody has read
any of those insect books out there a review would be nice.

http://www.survival.com/bug.htm I dunno... Clean drinking water has a higher priority than food. Guys tend to think about their stomachs, but you won't make it long without water. I'd also say having a trusted group will be important, since there'll be so many predators about.

For the most part bugs and rodents will be as clean or as dirty as their environment. For example the reason why cockroaches are a health threat is that they walk over biologically dirty areas and then walk over your food and contaminate it.

The work of gathering bugs, is probably not worth it, unless you come across a large number at one time: termite colony, or a ton of crickets.

Eating some bugs could cause health effects, breathing cockroach exoskeleton parts is the #1 cause of asthma in Children in North America, some trogoderma larvae can cause havoc on the digestive system. (See the Stored Product Pests FAQ on Frugal Squirrel and other sites)
