  • GPS Systems

Anyone have any experience with these? I am looking for any information I can find on model's/brands both ones to avoid and ones to take a look at.

Use will be a combination of hiking and off-road adventuring. I don't want a pure vehicle mounted unit, I would prefer one that can serve double duty. While not a replacement for map and compass, it is a good augment to these.

    Thanks,
    Frank

I use to lug a number of different GPS systems around.
A few years ago I took a tracking class with some experienced troops. (I was the high drag-Low speed member of the group)
They were all using Foretrex 101s.
I bought one and love it. Light, waterproof, readily available while on the move, and does everything I need it to.

I've been using the Garmin 60SCX both in Guam and here in Iraq. Very quick startup and location finding. Lighter than most and smaller too.
