  • ALICE LBV tips on finishing it up

Putting together my first LBV using www.bob-oracle.com for some good advice. Right now, in addition to the 4X double M16 mag pouches and two grenade pouches on the vest itself, the vest has:
    1X buttpack
2X SAW pouch mounted immediately on either side of the buttpack
1X 1qt canteen, stove, cup on left side
1X pistol holster on right side (opposite canteen)
2X first aid pouch mounted on the buttpack

Does anyone know where I can get the plastic box that goes inside the ALICE first aid pouch? I don't want to pay $30 each for a complete box and pouch when I have the pouch and can pack my own.

Also, does anyone have any suggestions on what to put in the grenade pouches up front (since I'm all out of grenades at the moment).

And any other general suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you are using a drop-leg holster, then get another pistol belt and wear it separately. I used to wear an LBV with a drop-leg rigged to it, and evertime I'd squat down, I'd get hung up while standing back up.

Compasses fit in the grenade pouches. You could also put a small strobe in one. Just dummy cord these so you don't lose them.

Have you thought about reducing you load by 1 SAW pouch and 1 IFAK? You've got a buttpack, afterall.

Honestly, I think I just got a little too happy in the Army surplus store and bought some extra stuff I might not need. I guess the most important thing would be to go hiking and camping when I get the time to find out what I really need and what's just in the way. Instead of just putting on what fits, I need to determine what items I'll need and the best way to carry them. Thanks for the advice.

I have two saw pouches because I plan on using the butt pack for a sleeping bag. It's cool to be all tactical and stuff, but in reality I'll probably just use it for hiking.
