  • What is going on with Gas Mask prices?

I noticed the prices are 10x what I paid years ago. Each time we have changed our military models I purchased the new units so I would have resupply. I noticed the ancient garbage whose filters might as well be paper selling on E-bay for WAY TOO MUCH MONEY.

I have purchase models that are not USA issue but they do use the same 40MM nato filters, even those Israeli models are selling 3-4x more that they could be had.

Thinking this might be due to "Unrest" in various nations? Survivalists stocking up? Restrictions on the existing stocks for resale?

It appears a gas mask would be a good investment just based off the resale prices. When a person can't breathe I bet they would pay handsomely for a gas mask.

I think that is in some of the new "Survivalist Books". I picked one up at lowes for $16 after Christmas and it's in there. I wouldn't bet my life on a homemade unit when a battle tested model is available for under $300

I watched a movie when I was into Netflix called "10 clover field lane", it was suggested by Netflix based off of my viewing habits. Wasn't bad but the young girl makes her protective gear from a shower curtain and 2 liter bottles. It had a few twists and turns and actually was rather good. Silly in parts but still it was nice to see the concept of a shelter with a large selection of food choices. Turns out John Goodman can act, and the other unknown characters were believable. The ending was a WTHWT type of thing but it wasn't half bad.

Thank you 9th Company, those aren't too bad. I think the civilian Israelis used to run $5 at the gun shows 10 years back now they are $30 so it's still something to invest in. Filters are what have a shelf life and getting one that is combat rated is a must. I like the filter on the left or slung over the back with a forced air pack. Few models available have the " Pre-Filters" that keep heavy dust/debris from clogging the unit prematurely.

I think masks are a personal preference, in the military, you get what they give you. In a TEOTWAWKI event I can see prices jumping to outlandish levels. Part of the reason for chemical weapons isn't as it was (to kill or incapacitate causing casualties) Todays weapons are used to deny access stopping an aggressor or protecting a secure area. Odds are Volcanic ash or fallout are the one thing everyone may encounter and that's just based off the way winds blow.

I'm quite familiar with the M17 series having to inspect and maintain a small unit of these. These ran in the past $25 or so at gun shows, their disadvantage being, like similar masks, the inability to change filters while wearing the mask. The newer M40 is preferred but it is more pricey. If you listen to the Intel Report with Mark Koernke, they go over specials, often from Maine Military. As they say having a mask is preferable to nothing. At least you can train with a cheap mask. And if you do get masks and replacement filters, keep it in a temperate environment.

I looked for M17 series on eBay and they are going double to what they were in the past.

I had a collection of older masks and filters and sold them all on eBay right after 9-11 but that hysteria was short lived. Mask prices seemed to have leveled off for quite a time but have been increasing in price lately but seems most everything is appreciating, I guess because of inflation.
