Rothco, Propper and Alpha are usually mil spec, one off-mil spec thing to look for is brass zippers. The. GI stuff went to plastic zippers which will be in a colors that coordinates the particular cloth color or camo, but a lot of gi stuff with the brass zippers is still in circulation on the secondary market, but again, Duluth is the good ****.

On another note, I already got myself that Rothco M65 field jacket in the Digital Woodland camo pattern a few weeks back and its one damn fine jacket. All in all, it was money well spent in my books and I'm definitely going to be warm for the upcoming Australian winter months (June, July and August) .

P.S. RT. Are the Rothco Ultra Force M65 field jackets machine washable? The reason why I ask is because the tags in the jacket say that its Quarpel treated. Just recently, I gave a jacket and liner a short cold wash and both items came up pretty good.

I don't know if there is anything specific to Rothco, but the GI stuff is all machine wash, no dry clean. The very newest Ranger uniforms have a fire retardent treatment which eventually washes out just like some older uniforms had a bug repellent which eventually washed out.

Washing in saltwater was always the worst thing, but sometimes your only choice on the seagoing vessels, which is why you would see Marines in older woodland cammies turned "salty blue", as the dyes came out that color after a few washings in salt water and the Navy camo patterns had the color tints set up to begin with so they would fade consistently when washed in salt water.
