question about combat vest feature

ok my parents bought me a miltary surplus combat vest ( by the ranks still attached im guessing army ie sgt ranks with no crossed rifle) any way on the right shoulder id a black section like a recoil patch? but inside is what feels like a rubber peice about 8" long and app 3/4 of a inch round. so what is the rubber peice for?

I have no idea what you're talking about. Do a google image search until you find one like yours. What do you have? Is it a load bearing vest (flic) a plate carrier? Body armor?

ok ive found what looks like the vest its listed as a miltary surplus assault vest with pistol holster but i can not figure out how to get the picture to post
