One other thing: If you are burning wood that has Poison Ivy/Oak in it, do NOT breathe the fumes.

A guy on another board died. Was starting a fire at home, and the wood had some poison ivy in it. He inhaled the fumes, not knowing, and wound up in a coma, then died about 3-4 days later.

That's what I do, also. I use Right Guard Xtreme anti perspirant/deodorant. I really don't get poison ivy that bad though.

All types of "poison" plants such as ivy, oak and sumac secrete a very similar type of oil, Urishiol. The oil can be active for several years, so even if it's dead, let it be! As others have said, use benadryl and other antihistamine type meds and creams. My "secret" remedy is tea bags. Last year, I got it so bad the right side of my face swelled my eye shut. My wife boiled tea bags, let them cool, and then applied them to my face. The hard part was trying to explain why my wife tea bagged me!

I helped a friend remove a deadfall and we both got a massive dose. Tried everything and finally just doused my arms with rubbing alcohol - dried it up in a few days. Kills the itch most rikky-tik.

I finally got my friend to try it and in three days he was Mr.Happy.

If I keep digging up dead threads my head will be in jeopardy.
