    Yaesu FT-897

    Anyone here have experiance with the Yaesu FT-897? Looks like a very good multi-purpose field portable rig. http://www.comdac.com/literature/yaesu/ft897.pdf

    I'd like to hear any comments from users.

    It's pretty much a do all, take anywhere radio. I wish I had practical experience on this one.... :-(

      Several buds have this radio and love it. I played with one for a short time. Nice radio. I prefer the Icom 706 MK2-G which I own. I like the display better, other than that the radios are very similar and both are good radios. They perform about the same.

        The buddipole is a great antenna. I bought one a few weeks ago and have made contacts to Australia, Europe and the Carribean with the antenna on a 16 foot mast that comes in the buddipole package. Look at this site. Click on the port-o-shack link.http://vk2acm.tripod.com/

        These two hams are good friends of mine in our radio club. They put a 897 to use in this set up. I think you'll enjoy seeing the final product.

        Good rig and tons of accessories too.
