Should they be turned off or left on?

Recently I posted another thread about having connectivity issues, where my internet would drop for a second and then return. This was playing having with the online cycling training program I run. I just heard back from the people who run the program and they told me to make sure that if I had VPN or proxy, that is was turned off, as it can block connection to their servers.

In Firefox, I went to Tools> Options> Advanced> Network ... then clicked the Settings tab next to Connection.

    There are options for:
    • No Proxy

    • Auto-detect proxy settings for this network

    • Use system proxy settings

    • Manual proxy setting

When I first went there my laptop was set to "Use system proxy settings." Should I choose "No proxy," or do as another web site suggests, go with Auto-detect?

    Re: Proxies

The way yours is set is the default. I would leave it there.

    Are you using a VPN?

Not even sure what a VPN is?

Do not use proxy settings for your internet connection or you won't have one.

So it would be safe to choose the No proxy option?

                  Done.

I switched it to no poxy on the laptop I used for the bike training. I left it alone, however, on the one I tool around on the old interwebs with.
