Re: Mozilla Firefox now official sucks!!!
Windows 7 and up is faster at dumping it than windows xp.
In xp the browser must dump it itself.
In 7 they added a new memory handle that the OS can dump sections marked as cache itself and then tell the browser and it is much faster.
This is why many newer browsers have dropped xp support as they removed the code that monitors and handles the dump itself.

Re: Mozilla Firefox now official sucks!!!
All modern browsers use a lot of memory if its available by design.
It does not slow down your computer except if you launch another memory intensive application it will slow down for the short time it takes to dump the memory used down.
It uses memory to cache the pages you have open.
The more tabs you have open the more it uses.
That is why the page appears near instantly when you switch tabs.
Given the size of web pages these days it is using more than ever.
For example a site like AW open in a tab uses 150kB of memory cache.
A site like yahoo or msn many use several hundred MB per page.

The task manager isn't layed out as clearly as the Process Explorer. It's easier to follow what's going on and shows everything on one screen.
Yeah, I know it's an old computer system but it works very well. It's pretty fast on most everything else. It's using Windows XP. I've been online now for an hour and a half and it's using 965000 KB. Not to bad right now!!!

Re: Mozilla Firefox now official sucks!!!
Chrome uses even more RAM than FF.
I hate to harsh your mellow but that computer may as well have come over on the Mayflower.

Re: Mozilla Firefox now official sucks!!!
Why did you download something called process explorer when you have the Task manager that tells you the same thing (and probably more)?
What version of Windows are you using?

Re: Mozilla Firefox now official sucks!!!
I have a love-hate relationship with Firefox. It's piss aggravating at times, and seems to get sluggish, but I like the add-ons like NoScript and Ad Block Plus that aren't available with Chrome. I still use it only because I'm used to it, but also because I don't notice that much of a difference in speed or usefulness with other browsers.

Mozilla Firefox now official sucks!!!
I tried Firefox a few years back and liked it so that's what i started using. Then my computer started getting slower and slower. I investigated and found that it's not my computer, it's Firefox. I downloaded Process Explorer so I can see what programs are running and how much resources they're using. Firefox is a HOG!!! My system is Windows XP with all of the updates. My computer is a dual processor and over three Gigs of Ram. Firefox is using way more RAM than it should be. Last nite it was using 1 1/4 GIGS of Ram!!!
It works fine but the program is very slow. The internet speed is fine. It's the latest version of Firefox with all of the updates in place. Apparently, it's been a problem for a while now. They call it "memory leak". I have followed all of the tips and tricks from the "experts" and installed a program to help it unload unused memory (Firemin) and it all helped but not enough. The longer it's on, the worse it gets. Right now, it's using well over a half Gig but that will hit a full Gig in a hour or so.
Has anybody else had this problem? What did you do about it? Any other good browsers out there? Thanks!!!Tags: None
