When I use the front USB ports on XP the system freezes.
When I use the front USB ports with Fedora...same box and set up ..no problem.

I would think a short some were or damage with the ports or cable...
But if it were a hardware issue, why would Fedora work and windows XP pro not?

Gotta be an XP issue...any ideas?

You may have to turn on the ports in XP under the Device Manager.

Windows will randomly turn unused ports off unless you tell it otherwise. It's happened to me before with the main FS computer server. Now when i get another XP system for the sim it's one of the first things I check.

Fedora may command them ON all of the time.

My guess is that Fedora is using a different driver for the USB controller that is not as flaky. If you can find a Windows driver from the manufacturer or PC builder, you could try that. Don't just get one from some shady site on the web or you will be installing malware.

You might even try uninstalling the driver and rebooting so it reinstalls. If it doesn't work, at least you only wasted a minute of time.

I think I will try and Isolate the fedora driver, copy it to a flash drive, and install in on xp.
