  • Recover email from outlook

    Situation:
HDD went TU, locked in the CHKDSK mode at start up but won't complete or repair itself.
Installed new HDD and am using the old one as an external drive to recover old data.
Trying to locate my email, email account settings etc in outlook but can't seem to find it.

    Problem:
All the help stuff online seems to assume you just misplaced some crap on your existing build and tells you to use outlook to find it. Well, that does not help me.

What do I need to search for? Old Outlook was .pst files, also looked for .ost files and I can't find jack. Any free tools out there? It used to be as simple and searching for the .pst, copy import and you were ready for kimche and beer.

    Re: Recover email from outlook

It will be in a pst file.
It will be located in xp:
    <drive letter>\Documents and Settings\{your login name}\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\
You will need to turn on show hidden folders and files to see the folders.

google: windows ?? show hidden files and folders
    Replace ?? with the version.

Once you have the pst file in your new outlook under file is import/export and import the old pst file into your new outlook.

Thanks! I found it. I was looking under Officer instead of outlook. Now the HDD is hanging up before I am able to recover the PST. What a pain!

try freezing the drive in the freezer for 6-8 hours in a baggie then plug it in and copy the files off as quick as possible.

You know, I read that some place and it sounded like crap to me so I did not try it. But, since all else has failed, what the heck!

              Re: Recover email from outlook

It works if the drive has bad bearings or if the head servo is sticking, if it was a head crash it wont help.... but it doesn't hurt to try it so nothing lost.
