  • Arrrrgggggg!!!!!!

Alright! This is getting plain out of hand! The glitch in the board's system that keeps making me log in even after I have already logged in is becoming insane!

Few things can make me feel like cussing like answering a post that is important to me with a very indepth post, only to be popped into re-logging in, and then be shown that I have already looged in and "Try the back button to reset the page"... and find that my entire post is gone!!

What can I do to avoid this?? Is there any "Special Way" that I need to log in to REMAIN logged in and be able to post normally??

Please pardon me for being upset at the moment, but this is starting to really get to me!

    WHAT CAN BE DONE?

I think that using the "keep me logged in" function prevents that. That's what I did when the board just did the same thing to me. Just need to remember to log out when using a public computer.

Thank for the help in this, ISC.
This is where the dilema enters and likely the base of the problem. This board's system requires that consistant, certain type of cookie/+ link to remain posting, and as a strict precaution, I regularly delete all information storage from my internet logs so as to help in 'pulling the rug' out from many things that might be sent within these connections as a malicious-ride-along after point A to my point B. (I never wish to meet Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, I'm certain I'd get arrested for punching them square in the mouth instead of shaking their hand!).

I have found that copying what I'm posting to MS Word before trying to send it,(if it's long and/or important), helps to avoid loosing the info in the case of link failure while trying to post. It's just that it's extra steps and not always a remembered process,(especially on top of everything else in my head).

      *Sigh*

I'll work it out, I suppose.

Still, I humbly thank you for the help.

I've got Firefox set here at home so that the cookie disappears every time I log out of a browser session. In other words, if I close Firefox, I'll have to log back in. I think I selected the box that said "Save cookies for this Browser session", though, so I knew what I was getting into.

        And I'm used to it.

At work? I'm always logged in.

I don't know if that means that my security level here at home is higher than it is at work on the company 'net, or what.

Remembering my password is not a big deal.

But I can deal with it.

It is just how the web system works really. All web sites have to have a way to 'know' who each user is. There are a few ways for that to happen. One is a 'cookie' which is nothing more than a text file with some information in it. For instance, here is the contents of my cookie file for AW.

The other main method used is activity. Web sites will remember a user so long as there is some activity coming from them within a time period. This method requires the server to store information in memory for each user who is online, so it can really eat up a server quickly at times. Right now, AW is set to retain that information for 20 minutes.

So, if you do not want to use cookies, you really have to have some activity coming into the server at least every 19 minutes or so. If you spend a long time writing a post or doing whatever and exceed that time, then the board WILL forget who you are and ask you to log in again.
