I'm sure this is basic but I can't verify something.

Ok, I have found a source for 762x54R yellow tip's silver tips and black tip ammo. Old stock Tuna can's. Problem is I don't have a com-block rifle (I always figured I could come up with one for free if they ever make moves on the US.

Is it possible to pull the bullet and use in a 308 or 30-06?

I figure I can sell the corrosive primed cases to someone that wants them or come up with a reloaded wildcat 32 cal or 5.56 sabot round for willing trades.

I have checked reloading books and don't have definitive answers. Some say the projectile is too long others say they are to wide? I thought a 30 caliber is a 30 caliber and the case determined the pressures and capacity of powder.

    The 7.62x54 is .312 diameter, .308 & 30-06 are .308!

The 7.62x54 is rimmed base the .308 & 30-06 are rimless.

Seems like you have a problem there.

Well that settles it, .312 is bigger than .308. I wasn't going to reuse the rimmed cases only pull the projectile and reload into a 308 or 30-06. I have heard a 32 caliber pistol bullet can be used in a 30-06 and thought if a .32 was bigger than .312 it would work? Hence the longer rifle bullet vs the shorter but wider pistol bullet.

I will come up with something

7.62x54R bullets are too big for US .30 rifles, but you could reload them into a .303, which does use a .311 dia bullet.

I don't have any 303's but wish I did as the brass case after it is fire formed can be used to make 410 brass shot shells. I have thought about purchasing a few cases from DAN of his old 303 musket ammo. I figured I would use a pipe cutter and remove the crimped top and then reload for a 410. Good source for lead and cordite. (I just love cordite soaked in acetone )
