  • Odd 308 casings

Having gone through the pile of milsup brass I came across a bunch that I have not seen before. They appear to be blank but not the type where the neck is crimped shut. Anyone know about these? Also since they are probably blanks are they still reloadable?

they may be grenade cartridges. I believe the StG.58 and the G3 both used these

      The one on the left?

I have a whole belt of these on M-60 links. they are open ended with a little round piece of cardboard at the open side to keep the powder in.

What bishop said. They can be trimmed and reloaded, but it is supposed to be dangerous. I have a friend that did 100 rounds of 5.56 and 7.62 blanks. He dumped the powder but used the blank's primer. He used an electric case length trimmer to do it.

They functioned fine, even the 5.56 blanks, which I was worried about because of the knurls on the case side. I wouldn't recommend it except as an exercise in emergency improvisation. If anyone decides to try this, it is imperative that ALL of the blank powder is removed or burnt because the blank powder burns so much hotter and faster than rifle powder.

It's worse than handgun powder, and even just a fraction of a grain mixed in with the normal charge would lead to unsafe pressures.

Those are the only type i've seen around here.
