  • 9mm 105gr. HP "Guard Dog" for home defense?

Anybody familiar with this ammunition for home defense: Federal Premium Guard Dog Home Defense Ammunition 9mm Luger 105 Grain Expanding Full Metal Jacket.

It is marketed for being safer to use in a home against intruders. Less likely to penetrate walls and kill family members or neighbors.

Is 105 gr. too light for home defense? Will the light weight projectile cycle through a pistol reliably?

The Guard Dog ammo looks pretty lethal in this test, penetrating nine inches into gelatin.

Tried it, won't waste any more money buying more. when it does expand, it lacks penetration. shooting water jugs, wet newspaper and other crap just don't cut it as a true test for ammunition. Won't buy any more Hornady Critical Defense ammo either. As a rule of thumb, I've about decided ammo with cute sounding names are just marketing hype.

So I guess you don't purchase much of the Hornady "Zombiemax" ammo for taking on the undead, either?

I use Cor-Bon Pow'R Ball at 100gr. It has a nylon ball in the tip to ensure penetration and expansion.

It also feeds like FMJ which is a good thing.
