I recently purchased some cooper washed rounds with 199 and 69 for numbers stamped around the primer. Is this steel core? Anyone familiar with these? The way they are wraped in paper and came in an ammo box I assume they are military surplus.
Sling and I did a little bit of the metallurgy thing on this stuff a few years ago.
It's a fairly hard Rockwell B-scale steel. Call it "half-hardened".
If it looks like this:
then it probably comes out about like this one did:
RB 85 or so, average hardness. It won't shoot through a whole lot of armor plate, but it'll eat two or three car doors like butter.
