Was at the gun shop and a gaggle of LEOs walked in and all bought a couple boxes of Hornady's Critical Defense ammo for their duty weapons. Is there something mystical about this round?

Re: What the deal with Critical Defense
From what I gather its said to not plug with cloth when it hits-you know the old denim test. I've read that it Might? not meet FBI penetration specs."some people never let their given word interfere if something they want comes along"
The real problem with the world are laws preventing culling.

Re: What the deal with Critical Defense
It's on the "Ammunition with a cool sounding name" list.
You know...right up there with Black Talon, Supreme Elite, Ranger and Hydra Shok.
Ammunition with a cool name is known to be more accurate and kill people deader than ammunition without a tactically approved brand name.
The only thing that kills deader is that Teflon-coated cop killer stuff.
From the Hornady webpage for Critical Defense ammo:
The 45 Colt Critical Defense load has been maximized for performance in short-barreled platforms, and is a fantastic choice for the very popular Taurus Judge. Both the 44 SPL and the 45 Colt Critical Defense loads offer real “man-stopping” power.
Ok...just for printing those two bits of idiocy, I'll stick with my usual rounds in my usual firearms.
A Taurus Judge? Really? Yeah, that's my first choice in a defensive pistol. Word yo.
Man-stopping power? I knew my 'low capacity 1911s' and FMJ was weaksauce, damnit! I couldn't 'stop' a buglar if I emptied the magazine into his chest and face! Crap.

Re: What the deal with Critical Defense
I carry plain old Speer Gold dots in 9mm and .45, Plus P 124's in the nine, 230 jhp in .45. Something better out there? Dunno, but I sure ain't gonna let my decision be influenced by some tacticool marketing ploy title."some people never let their given word interfere if something they want comes along"

I guess I will have to sell my Officers .45 and buy a judge so I too can have "real stopping man power" with a Judge!!
