  • Wolf ammo and "Polish Makarovs"

I had lifted a box of my girlfriends Makarov ammo to test my Polish Mod 64. I grabbed a couple of boxes of Wolf at the gunshow to pay her back and to try wolf in the Pole. Much to my surprise the much more pointed round by Wolf would not chamber in the Pole. It stuck on the feed ramp every time. It did fine in her East German Makarov though.

Sounds like a feed ramp issue to me. Or the Mag.

If the Wolf (LVE, whatever) FMJ won't feed in it, it won't eat anything. That stuff is almost identical to the EG milspec.

I didn't chrono it, but I did weigh a bullet, and they are identical that way to within .005 gram, which is normal variation within a lot.

And after half a can of the EG (3200 round can!) I know the recoil.

And I can't tell the difference by feel. Barnaul, S&B, handloads, Silver Bear? I can pick them out. The Wolf is almost surely straight milspec. If it doesn't work, polish your feed ramp and check your magazines.

I think that this pistol was set up for the short ROUND nose bullet usually encountered in milspec ammo. 3 or 4 (I forget) different brands of this type of ammo fed flawlessly but the Wolf pointed tip failed to feed every time. In keeping the size of this pistol to minimal limits I believe it was designed this way.

I have a Polish P83 and I too had problems with it chambering anyting other than FMJ rounds. Any HP rounds...fagedaboudit! But, my Bulgarian Makarov... eats em' all...
