If you mean the Spanish 1916 that was original chambered in 7mm Mauser then you'll need to handload to get the right specs. for the rifle. The 1916 was built on the "small ring" Mauser action, sometimes called the '93 mauser and as such isn't made for todays high pressure ammo. You can shoot 7.62 NATO but DO NOT shoot the higher pressure .308 Win. round in the gun. The best thing to do is load a light bullet using the starting load in a good loading manual. That should be safe enough. Just be careful.
