I know that the .45-70 was put into production in 1873, has any round been in some kind of regular use since before then?

Interesting! Thank you. Its interesting that in the past few decades many new cartridges have come along. 10mm, .40sw, all the new rifle rounds, and yet the ones that seem to be in my favorite list have all been made before the 1960's. Perhaps it is just because they have had the chance to prove themselves.

I'm not sure of earliest use dates right off the top of my head, but like the 45-70, the 30-30 was originally a black powder round. Which puts it a ways back there.

45LC has been around a goodly while, too.
