I have just acquired a Ruger Standard that dates to 1975. It is my understanding that these are identical to the Mark 1 with the exception of the fixed sights. Is this correct? I was looking for a Mark 2 but at the $220 price tag I couldn't pass it up. My question is: are these worth modifying with bull barrel etc or should I just go find myself a Mark 2?

Re: Ruger Standard / Mark 1
The cost would probably be more than its worth. Not collectors pieces but their value is slowly increasing, I'd leave it unmolested, they shoot pretty well in out of box form. Mark 2's are out there if you look, past these I wouldn't buy a Ruger, too much crap added that can screw up, I've had two MK 3's. will not own another."some people never let their given word interfere if something they want comes along"
The real problem with the world are laws preventing culling.

Re: Ruger Standard / Mark 1
Well... Now I'm in a pickle. I picked up an entry level Mark 3 for $150... So now I have a pair, and neither one resemble the Mark 2 bull barrel I was wanting, but for $150, how do you say no?
Now all I need is a shoulder rig for a double cross draw!

Re: Ruger Standard / Mark 1
I had a nice stainless bull barrel Mk. II, but I could shoot my 6" pre mark standard just as well. Sold the Mk. II just cause I could get more out of it than the standard and didn't need both. Any of the Ruger Mark series pistols are great guns. You're probably just as well off with what you have than what you were looking for in the first place. Ya got a heck of a deal on both of them!
arkyboyI\'d rather dial 1911!
