Trying to make it do things it was not designed to do. No one ever claimed the Desert Eagle was a combat-ready gun. At best, it's a hunting firearm, and would presumably receive decent care.

I just figured Flash, since the Israeli's made it........it was pretty combat ready!! It just MAY have been originally designed for combat........but WHO really knows their original intent??? So.......now it it is a hunting gun.
They have produced MANY.........of the MOST useful AND popular weapons ever made on the Planet..........
The Movies.........during the 80's.......UZI was the king. President Reagan loved having them around!
Desert Eagle in many of the latter versions of Film and Video games........
Galil's were popular also, before importation was stopped.

Frankly, if one wanted to use the .50AE round in combat, it would be much better to use the L.A.R. "Grizzly" pistol for it (now discontinued). That gun is just a 1911 on steroids and, I think, considerably more reliable. I love shooting mine. It has the same capacity as the DE (6 + 1), is a lot lighter, and much easier to do the manual of arms with. The very heavy slide of the DE makes it feel funny when shooting it, too. Both guns do have hand-filling stocks (which are fine for me, but would be an issue for some people, especially those with short fingers).
When I was shooting IPSC/USPSA matches indoors (1990s) I typically shot a 1911 in .45ACP. The .50AE model Grizzly does not appear much different from a standard 1911--just a little bigger overall. Every so often we had a "fun" match where we could use any gun we wished. One night I put the Griz' .50 in my holster (it fitted) and shot it. We were using mechanical stop watches back then. We shot a stage with 4 shooters on the line, side by side. When I fired my first shot, the 4-foot flame lit up the indoor range and the resounding BOOM was stupifying. Everyone just froze in place, while I continued firing. (Everyone thought my gun had blown up.) My timekeeper had been warned, but he told me that if I hadn't done that he'd had crushed the stopwatch when I fired. (His hands were big and powerful enough to have done it, too.) I really enjoyed that!
I think it's a real shame that the L.A.R. Grizzly pistols were discontinued in the early 1990s. They were made in several calibers, but the .45 Win Mag and .50AE were the most successful. The .357 Mag and .44 Mag versions had special tricky magazines to handle the rimmed revolver cartridges, and they caused failures. The .45 Win Mag and .50AE cargridges were rimless, and did not experience feeding problems.
