SIG-Sauer P220 in .38 Super

Would you guys buy this SIG-Sauer P220 in .38 Super or would you buy one in .45 ACP?

There is one on GunBroker that I'm thinking of purchasing and I'm torn between the two calibers. I'm trying to replace a couple of handguns I had to sell before I got my new job.

Aside from the heel release on this P220, would you prefer the .38 Super? I've always wanted a P220 in .38 Super. It's like a 9mm on steroids.

I wouldn't be above the .38 Super. I've got a Colt 1911 in .38 Super that shoots just fine.

As S.S. noted, the ammo is a bit expensive if you don't roll your own, but if you only shoot a box or two a month, that's not a major crisis. It's no more expensive than 10mm.

I had one in 9mm & current one is .45. I didn't know they made it in 38 super.

I'd have a hard time choosing a P220 in 38 Super when I could just do a P229 in .357 SIG which is pushing same diameter & weight bullet ~100fps faster.

It was also made in 9mm Steyr and .30 Luger, but not many know about those.

Completely apart from my issue with .357 Sig or .40 bouncing and twisting more than I like, there's the whole reloading thing with .357 Sig. I can do it, but necked pistol rounds are fussy about the crimp, and almost have to be checked in the chamber of the firearm you are loading them for every 25 rounds or so, unless you want either FTF's or set-back bullets. With either the .357 Sig or the .40 having as short a case as they do? I'm really paranoid about set-back rounds. You can overpressure yourself before you know what happened.

Ammo expense is not any lower in that case either. I tend to stick to things I'm comfortable rolling my own ammo for, whether I am going to do it or not. YMMV.

Until they chamber a German made P229 in .38 Super, there will not be one in my collection.
