  • Ruger Scout in .450 Bushmaster

    http://www.ruger.com/products/gunsit...eets/6837.html

Ruger is banging on all cylinders here lately. This looks pretty cool. I'd rather it be .500 Beowulf, but I can understand why they went with .450 Bushmaster. And in terms of reloading it's probably the easiest of the big bore rifles to do (since it is a straight case and .454 like .45 Colt and .45 ACP).

I need to do research on this cartridge, don't know squat about what it has going for it.

It's a 250 grain bullet, same as .45 ACP, only boat tail. It gets around 2200 fps from a 20" AR or just under 2000 fps from a 16" AR. It's less powerful than .458 SOCOM, but probably cheaper to fire as well. The ballistics are actually pretty close to .500 Beowulf in a 20" barrel, although the Beowulf does surprisingly better in a short barrel.

I would rather have a .500 Beowulf to be honest, but the .450 Bushmaster is still pretty cool. I think Ruger went with it because it works with a .308 bolt face. So Ruger only had to change the barrel.
