  • Ruger to produce and sell factory 30 round mags for the Mini 14

The title about says it all.

I called the Ruger store this afternoon. They are out of stock on the 20 round mags, but are taking back orders. Their price for the 20 round mags is $39.95.

The supervisor I spoke to told me that Ruger IS manufacturing new factory 30 round mags, but there is no release date yet. She said it could be fairly soon though, and to check back. They need to get product in the pipeline with major suppliers before they authorize sale.

And THAT will happen the day after a new ban takes place!!!
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgement was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands: and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. Actually they are for sale now. I ordered two from the Ruger Company Store on their website. The cost was $49.95 each, and delivery expected within one to two weeks.
Now I wish I had sold the 5 original ones I had when they would have brought $150 each.

        Fast service.

The two factory 30 round magazines arrived USPS today. Thats just three days, including the weekend!
They are unmarked, they do not say "Restricted Law Enforcement/Govt use only" like some of my 20 round mags are.
Now I have two dozen factory 20 round, and 7 factory 30 round magazines.
I probably have enough for the time being.

I still think ruger would do better to change the mini design to take AR mags. If they did I'd buy one and give the mini another chance.

well you know that is never going to happen.

As I have said before, the Mini is not what I would grab if I were heading out the door, but the one I do have functions fine, shoots the same ammo as m AR rifles, and would do the job if called upon.

Curious. Why wouldn't you grab it? Caliber, reliability, or something else?

Re: Ruger to produce and sell factory 30 round mags for the Mini 14

I think 'ruger' mini14 mags are far superior to AR mags. They are much better designed and built. However they are less available because of Ruger's past ignorance... I believe Ruger intentionally did not use AR mags due to their poor reputation when the rifle was beeing developed. That has been mostly been corrected now.

The aftermarket mags are like playing craps, mostly a loosing game.

                No offence ISC. IMHO, YMMV.

                Thx-Ace

QUESTION: does wolf steelcased ammo work well in a Mini14? have heard comments about Russian ammo and firing pins on a mini, is it true and is wolf a bad round to use?. I would like a comment from a senior member about this, thanks.....

In the Mini I had the thing hated Wolf! Every case would stick in the chamber and had to be rodded out. Thats heck on an extractor. I dislike the mini I had I got rid of it! Would rather shoot my AR/s

I didn't wait for them and bought Pro Mag 30 round polymer magazines. They are really good and better than the usual aftermarket garbage. I bought many aftermarket magazines only to find out they are useless or they crapped out on me.

The Pro Mags are a nice change, they feed flawlessly and drop freely when released. Their 20 rounder needs to be sanded down to fit more freely in my Mini (series 181). Other plastic magazines I had were the Eagle with the constant pressure spring which were NFG. I haven't tried the Thermold magazines yet.

The steel aftermarket mags usually don't have any markings so you don't know what to avoid. I haven't tried the John Masen magazines so if anyone has experience with them please post it.

If I remember right the manual says not to use that Russian ammo.

'cause my go to rifle is a M1A in 7.62 NATO.

Stevenj, Wolf steel case works fine in my Mini. Thousands of rounds down range with no issues. Yet.

                            I had one that fired 8" MOA.......with a scope.......

The first shot was always right in there with a cool barrel.....but subsequent shots would end up being 8 inches low and to the right at 100 yards.......

It was reliable, but NO accuracy!!

                            Goodbye Mini-14!!!!

I certainly have heard that Led, but I have never seen a Mini that shot that poorly. I have owned at least 6, and shot many others.
My current 188 series, with a 2.5X scope, holds two inche 100 yard groups all day long.
