What is a good reliable hi cap for the Mini 14 and where can you get them?

PMI and John Masen mags seem to have a good reputation. Of course, there are the factory mags, but the old high-caps are prepostrously expensive. I can't say how long the Eagle plastic mags will last if you shoot a case of ammo a month, but for an average shooter, I like them. USA and Western are usually referred to as crap. Triple K has fair to middling quality. The bonus is that the company will still replace them for you if they don't work.

Sportsmans's guide and cheaperthandirt tend to have the lower end of the mag food chain.

For relatively cheap mags, I have had success over the years with the Ramline Combo mag. I am aware that others have not been so lucky. The only one I had trouble with had a soft tip that acted to hit the lever that locks the bolt to the rear. The bolt would fly forward after the last round and knock the magazine's follower out of the mag. I sent it to Ramline requesting a new follower and they sent me a new mag.

older PMI mags were good, all other aftermarket magazines for the Mini are 'suspect', with some being down right awful.
I threw away 6 brand new John Masen 20 round magazines at the range, after they repeatedly failed to feed.
Ruger magazines are bullet proof. They feed reliably, are not that expensive, and are widely available. The 20 and 30 round magazines are for sale at Ruger's web site, and many other places on line. Google lists hundreds of sources.
Magazine prices and quality have been a thorn in Ruger's side since the beginning. Things are what they are. If you are going to run a Mini, then do not scrimp on magazines, buy what works, spend the money.

the Osceola National Forest range up in Lake City. If you find them, be sure to only use them for range mags, on a day when your frustration tolerance is up to par.
