  • Hungarian Dragunov's

There is a new concern that is 'trying' to import new Hungarian AK's and that includes newly made Hungarian Dragunov sniper rifles. These will NOT be oversized AK's like the Romanian PSL's, but true Dragunov sniper rifles.

'When' they get here I will have to buy one at least for my Grandson. It will go perfectly with the two cases of 7n1 I still have left.

As soon as I have a firm word, I will post it so y'all can buy this time. I also hope to have perfected a load to duplicate the 7n1 Russian long range sniper ammo to go with it.

All depends on the price. I wouldn't pay over 1k for one.

You want to leave a great long range semi-auto to the grandkids, get an M1A.

The Russians are finally dumping the SVD. Too bad we can't buy the surplus ones...

Here is a vid of Putin firing the new rifle:

He already has a mid 1980's National Match one with all military parts. Got him a real Brookfield scope mount for it also with a Leupold scope. I got that for him when my son told me my Daughter in Law was pregnant! Grand Dad does not believe in waiting until the last minute. LOL

I got one for my Grand Daughter also that is going to be born in July to my Daughter. I believe in being an equal opportunity spoiler. HAHAHAHAHA

Hawk, do you have a link to this story?

As for rifles, it's great you have an M1A or two set aside. AFAIK M1A> AR10 > G3 = FAL > Dragunov. For me the M1A is top dog now, even though I don't have one. Although given the price point of the G3 from PTR, it's probably the one I'd recommend (just due to price). The Dragunov would have to be priced low to interest me. But I'm not into collectibles these days.

Here is the link to the thread on the AK Forum about them from the man that is in Hungary right now working with the factory to get this done.

            https://www.theakforum.net/forums/26...-told-you.html

BTW when I asked about the replacement for the SVD, most there did not see it happening for the entire Russian Army. For one of two specialized units at most due to cost and money shortages in Russia.

As to M-14's, the reason I like them is the fact I carried the sniper version thru two tours in Nam. They need LOTS of specialized gunsmith support to stay accurate. Have used the best from H&K when I worked for them doing Military and LEO demonstrations. That also gave me access to their reports of failures in South America and Africa. Carried the FAL in Africa and the Middle East and am currently wringing out an AR10 I built. Other than not exactly trusting its gas system, it seems to be working out pretty good.

Importation has been delayed due to the fact the Hungarian Army just put in a big order for a bunch of them. They do take priority over Civilian sales here. I can be patient though as a 'late' one from Hungary is much better than a NEVER Russian one. Especially as these are being made from the drawings gotten directly from the original designer!

My biggest hope is that they are smart enough to keep prices reasonable.

You're killing me!! If its going to be anything like their HK MP5K then it will be 10 years down the road, all the while telling people that it will be available 3rd quarter of this year. EVERY year at Shot Show. Then they will cover it with proprietary MagPul parts.

It and a couple other test samples are at BATF tech section for testing for final approval for importing.

Have cancelled my order as they are now supposed to be MORE than the $3,800.00 price.

For that amount I can either buy or build something MUCH more accurate and get GOOD glass to!

Well it was announced today that the BATF just approved the Biathalon version for import. The first 100 is already spoken for and STILL no price has been announced!

I am still glad I got off the list as I am working on an AR-10 in 6.5 Creedmore. Cheaper mags and better ballistics and group sizes all the way out to 1000 yards!
