Someone went to a lot of trouble to design these things. I think they are well thought out.

Someone made their own facsimile and posted it to imgur. The cylinder is wood and lacks the spring that locks the cylinder into alignment. It's not at at all a bad starting point for someone wishing to take this to the next level.

In my mind, taking it to the next step would involve acquiring black powder revolver cylinders. That keeps it from being by definition a firearm in most states and would keep this a legal build.

It's legal to build your own firearms in most states. As long as they don't make it NFA, they should be fine.
