    Shotguns with rifled slug barrels.

    I occasionally see statements made that rifled slug barrels are not a good platform for shooting buckshot through, but I've never managed to track down any definitive answer as to why that would be, other than that it's just bad.

    Experience, comments, observations, or scientific studies solicited.

    When you shoot shot in a rifled barrel it causes the shot to come out spinning. This makes for a doughnut shaped pattern. The farther away the target, the larger the hole in the pattern.
    At 25yds. it's very noticeable. Any further and you have the potential for a clean miss.
