Was looking on Centerfire, saw Saiga and a Turkish made model that looks like an AR 15. I like the isea of 10-12 rounds in a mag. It would be a about a $6-700 experiment. is Saiga a quality shot gun?? I have Reminton's, Mossberg's and a Benalli, but I am intrigued with the notion of seeing 10 rounds of 00 buck going down range. It even sounds like awesome. Feedback, please. Thanks in advance.

Re: Saiga 12gauge
OK....Had the Saiga and dolled her up quite nice. Had two stage gas system once broke in was a real sweetie. The self adjusters should be as good or "gooder" than the first models.
I now have the Turkish and love it dearly also. Don't you'll go wrong with ether.Youth And Brawn Are No Match For Age And Treachery.

Re: Saiga 12gauge
I have a Saiga and thouh I haven't yet done any conversions yet I have installed a self adjusting gas system (a simple cap replacment).
Simple AK-47 ergonomics.
The drum is cool looking but it doesn't hold ANYTHING larger than 2 3/4"shells. I had wished that my Seller and Bellot 00 buck in the clear shells could fit but they don't.
The drum also makes odd the shoot from the shoulder.

Re: Saiga 12gauge
I'm not a huge fan of the Saiga. I love it at the range, but I've had a few stoppages and found it to be slow to reload. Overall while it is normally fine functioning it is not 100 percent. I much prefer a Mossberg. To me a Mossberg is kind of like a Glock in that I can pick it up and shoot it without worrying about whether it will fire or not. No gun which is not 100 percent (or 99.99 percent anyway) should be used for self protection. Drums/ high capacity/auto-loading... all great stuff, but all meaningless if the gun does not work.
Where I think the Saiga has good utility is in its basic format (longer barrel and regular stock) for use as a hunting weapon. It is relatively lightweight and has low recoil. Follow up shots are generally fast. If the gun does not work... you might miss the birds, but at least you live to talk about it.Last edited by Southern Shark; November 25, 2012, 20:15.
