  • I'm beginning to think I made a mistake buying the Mossy 835.

I've had pump shotguns floating around since I was still in High School, but I never had one that took 3" shells, let alone 3.5" ones. And now I do.

So, naturally, now I am stocking up on 3" and 3.5" ammunition for it. I've probably spent more on shells for it since I got it than I paid for the gun in the first place.

I'm not complaining, so much, but it does seem to be a little bit obsessive. It's not like the same 2 3/4" stuff that I have for the other three won't work in it or anything. The stuff I'm buying for it, however, will not work in my other ones.

Oh, well. As long as I keep it in a separate location, I'm good to go, I guess.

Ijust gave away a box of 3.5" shells because I don't own a 12 ga that shoots it. I don't hunt duck or geese and that's the only reason I see for needing the extra shell capacity.

If I could get an AK that shot 7.62x49 bullets? Or any rifle that would shoot 7.62x61 and still shoot 7.62x51? I'd buy it, in a New York Minute.

Bigger rounds are good. They are like having a "bigger gun", whenever you want one, and have the ammo.

That's a pipe dream with a Rifle, but it does work for a Shotgun. Oh, yes, I will have something that throws more and/or bigger lead. How can you possibly go wrong with that?

I like a shotgun with the capability to shoot all three shell lengths in case I run out and can only find 3" or 3.5" stuff. Thats the ONLY reason, I value my shoulder and collar bone too much to ever shoot any of that stuff unless what I'm gonna shoot at will do more damage to me than feeling like a had a dumptruck dropped on my head. 2-3/4 slugs and buck kick more than enough as is! I've yet to come upon anything 'round here that regular shells won't kill.

          I'm still a recoil junkie.

I may have a bruise and a sore shoulder for a day or three if I'm out blasting away with something heavy duty, but every time it gives me a twinge, I grin.

OTOH, I tossed 25 rounds through an M-44 a month or so ago, just about as fast as I could stuff them in off the stripper and wind back up. I was trying to convince the eldest grandson that it didn't hurt to shoot it.

He wasn't convinced, but I never noticed any pains from that one, so it takes more rounds than 25, anyway.

I've only run five of the 3.5" rounds through it, though. A couple dozen may leave a mark. I'm OK with it if it does, within reason, but I don't want to leave too big of one. I use my right hand to scratch my head, and I'd be totally annoyed if that hurt.

Recoil doesn't bother me either, but I really don't see the point of anything over 3". At that point its really just for duck hunting.

Did you get the Tactical Turkey Model?

I think that one looks cool.

Just the flat black. I'm allergic to pretty much everything "tactical" if it relates to firearms.

The one exception would be a decent attached cup-holder, so that I don't have to get Bubba to hold my beer before I show him my latest trick.

Ah that's too bad. The Tactical T has the coolest camo pattern. I thought about buying one just for the looks, although I admit the ability to use any type of ammo is a big plus too (even if I don't consider 3.5" to be very useful). It is just good to know that you have lots of options available to you.

Should I ever decide that I want a Camo pattern on a firearm, I'll get the Duracoat and do it myself. I think I'd go with the Marine version of it, actually, with the Truckdriver silhouettes of women.

The critters won't notice, and if a person that I'm shooting is close enough to see the pattern, he's close enough for me to be shooting him already, I suspect.

One of my favorite finishes for working guns is baked zinc cold galvanizing spray paint, which is then painted black engine enamel over that and baked again.
