Flashlight on shotguns?

I was considering purchashing a flashlight for mounting on my shotgun for HD purposes. Anybody try this? Are there any cheaper alternatives to a Surefire 300/400? Or just break down and buy a quality light?

I run a Surefire on my Remington 870; its really the only way to work a light on a pump. Insight teamed up with Eotech and is marketing a light to compete against Surefire. For semiautos you have more of an option. On my FN SLP I run a Streamlight M3 with a pressure tape switch from the factory mag tune rail.

Bruce, a cheap light might not hold up under shotgun recoil. I've seen slug guns turn many of the under $200 scopes most people say are good, into several pieces of junk, laser sights also...

I used a mini-mag lite with a simple double clamp that attaches it to the lower tube. I got a nite eyez LED conversion and a swith that replaced the buttcap. The switch has a coiled cord that I attached to the forearm and it expands and retracts as the shells are cycled. The nice thing is that it uses standard AA batteries instead of the more expensive types. It has lived there for a couple of years with no problems. The light probably isn't as brite as a Sure-Fire but it lights up a room or hallway no problem.

I vote Surefire ... Bright enough to Temporarily blind someone inside the house on the wrong end.

If you are putting it on something that may just need to work right in an emergency, go with quality.

I'm in ZZ Top mode on that kind of thing. "Better to have it than to need it and not."

If it's built to work under that kind of stress it will probably do so. If it isn't? I'd hate to have the bulb blow up the first time I rack the slide. That'd make follow-up shots a guessing game, and I'd really be annoyed with that.

Okay, I bought a Streamlight TLR-3 weapons light. It has a bunch of "key inserts" to fit different sized rails. I take it I should choose the tightest fitting key insert that will fit so the light does not move back with recoil on the rail?

I want one for my MKA1919. E mailed ElZetta. Want a mount just like my ARs.....no rails.
MKA has larger front sights.
They didn't read my request and sent snail mail copies of rails. Sigh.

I mounted a cheap one on my shotgun, but haven't shot it yet to see how it does. I figure that If I need it, I'd only need it for a few shots, but I still want to know.
