  • A couple of REMINGTON 1100 Questions.

    Hi all,

I have not posted here in a while, but I thought I would pose these questions to you knowledgeable shotgunners.

I was looking at two older Remington 1100 shotguns the other day. They were pretty identical except for one said "SKEET-B" on the receiver. The other one did not. Why does it say that on the receiver? It is only for skeet type loads, or can you use any load in it?

The one with "SKEET-B" also had a lower serial number on it.

My other question is what is the 'choke' called on a shotgun that really has no 'choke' in it? Like a shotgun set up for home defense or similar. The barrel is just a 'tube' with no screw in choke. What is that called? Also, what would be the 'next' choke above that? I mean for the widest shot pattern.

    Thank you all!

Re: A couple of REMINGTON 1100 Questions.

the barrel sports a fixed choke....and MAYBE is set up to load 2 rounds only...and has a wire near the ejection port to catch the empty

width of the pattern is sometimes the function of the shot involved....handloaded magnum shot is harder and thus do not deform and fly's truer....as oppossed to the softer stuff that gets deformed upon ignition and finds its own way thru the shot column and the air and opens up the pattern....but to answer your question, skeet is about as wide as it gets.

The barrel on this "SKEET-B" 1100 had a BRILEY choke system in it. The set had four tubes, all of different 'choke' sizes.

So the "SKEET-B" 1100 will not eject the empties? It catches them?

What is the 'choke' called when the barrel actually has no 'choke' on it, like in a HD shotgun?

I know there is 'modified', 'improved cylinder', and the like.

Im sorry if you answered my questions above and I just did not understand them. I am new to shotguns and the nomenclature.

      Thanks again.

First I don't know about the "SKEET-B" neither of my 1100's have that. One of mine is 2 3/4" bore other is 3" magnum and states "MAGNUM" on the receiver.

Choke with no choke is called Cylinder Bore. My Mossberg 500 Persuader has that. Looking inside the barrel looks like a straight tube.

        Chokes go:
        Cylinder bore
        Light Skeet
        Skeet
        Improved Skeet
        Improved Cylinder
        Light Modified
        Modified
        Improved Modified
        Full
        Extra Full
        Super Full

More info on chokes can be found here http://www.wildfowlmag.com/tips_stra...hotgun_062304/

        Hope this helps.

Wonderful, thank you for the information.
I had no idea there were so many choke variations.
