  • Anyone ID an 12 ga. folder?

This is a single shot break open 12 ga., with an aluminum pistol grip thats equiped with an underfolding tube stock. Stocks locks open and closed via a push button release located on the left side of the pistol grip.
Left side of the receiver has "Made for Kimel Industries, Matthews N.C." Right side has "12 guage 2-3/4", F.I. Industries, Washington D.C." Anyone with any information to share on this shotgun will be appreciated

Does the thing resemble this in any way??

If so they are junk or for survival use (I say survival use because you can pack it away, it will mostly work when you need it to and if it gets lost or rusted up who cares)

Specs for what you want are here:

      http://proofhouse.com/cm/codes_markings.htm

FAC sold them right up until it was seen as a 12ga "Sawed Off Shotgun".

You see these were marketed as Survival shotguns that don't fire when the stock is in front of the barrel and they were under OAL to be legal in any configuration. Same outfit used to sell glock pistol attachments that would turn a legal weapon into a SBR due to nothing more than some law.

We all know how those rules are twisted to an end.

About the 12ga pistols, to get around the restrictions of SOS they were then marketed as a 12ga flare pistol or even a black powder derringer and then company wasn't around too much longer. Never got the whole story on why they went belly up but have an idea.

I kept searching for a couple hours, finally found the shotgun in question is a "Kimel Kamper." Didn't find much else but at least I know what its called.

Well, so much for having the proper name. Either the GB auction is way off or the info I have is. This one has a tubular folding stock, sorta looks like some I've seen on AK's

                In that case....

                BISHOP is correct.

It seems you are referring to a "longer" barreled version of what he showed a pic of & then further describes.

I know exactly what he is speaking of, but can't find a pic.

Again, from the sounds of it, BISHOP nailed it.

I remember seeing them offered, i wasn't aware of the "back story" until his post.

Sorry i couldn't be more help.

Re: Anyone ID an 12 ga. folder?

Nope, the one I saw is nothing like the picture Bishop did. Wish I still had it in my possession so I could do a pic. This one is nothing more than an 18" sawed off 12 guage with the forementioned aluminum PG with a slot milled in it to allow the tubular stock to fold under the receiver. A notch has been cut in the forearm to allow sufficient clearance for it to be loaded and fired with the stock in the forward position. I think this thing would make a nice backpack gun for those times when a firearm probably won't be needed but ......

Appreciate everyones trying to help. I'm gonna keep looking until I find a photo, must not be too common as there is very little mention of these if any at all. It is a fascinating little shotgun, guess I should have kept it as a conversation piece if for no other reason. With its light weight plus the narrow metal butt, I bet it would have been really unpleasant to shoot. As in one of those firearms you use only if greater harm will be delivered by what you need to shoot!

Yes the pictured one is a double barrel pistol length .410 shotgun, but isn't the one I'm referring to.

I have one of these 12 gauge weapons you speak of. It's a single barrel single shot with a tubular folding aluminum stock. It was issued to my late Father who was a TN Police Officer. They carried bean bag 12 guage rounds for riot control. This one has never been fired.
