  • 9mm carbine

I was researching doing a 9mm CAR upper or even an SBR but when checking around for an OLY upper, you still need a block and mags too, its cheaper to order a Vector Uzi with folding stock than to build a 9mm upper.
lots of cool factor there, what do you think?

You want to go with the Colt style 9mm upper. Yes, you still need a mag block but you can buy cheap $10 uzi magazines and convert them pretty easily. The mag blocks are drop in from either the bottom or top. I used an ASA 9mm for years and then just found 9mm parts and built one. Stumbled into a Colt barrel for $100, used an old M16 receiver I boought for $50. Already had handguards, bolt and carrier so no cost there and swapped for a mag block that had a $125 rice tag on it. You are looking at $550 for a 9mm conversion. RRA has the best deal on them I believe. They use the Colt system.

Well Sir......you cannot go wrong with an Uzi......although I'm not familiar with the Vector brand. My experience is with a model A Israeli with the 16" barrel......

The SWEETEST 9mm carbine there ever was!! We used to have competitions out at the range as to who could hit a milk jug filled with water....on the ground......at about 25 to 30 yards away......from the HIP.....semiauto.......before the mag ran dry.......

That is before the "one shot" every half hour rule came about at the range...... (it isn't THAT bad, but may as well be.... the "OLD" Prick's there just do not know how to have fun)

I hit one on the third shot one time......they are VERY natural "pointer's".........

Ya gotta hand it to them Israeli's!!!! Get an Uzi!!

I shot a 9mm Cx4 and loved it. It seems much more of a weapon than the Sub-2000 but they are $795 or so, more than a 9mm AR conversion of your existing lower.

I like the UZI design but hate the weight and wait for vector to build one. Since they are all over the net you can pick one up for 600 but I have to ask why?

If you were looking at an olympic their full blown rifle that uses glock mags is around 800 and then you would have a weapon that will have spare parts WTSHTF, last time I looked for anything UZI there were few parts and the cost was way too high for anything. Think about it the extractor will break first and then assuming you find one it will run you 30 bucks or more.

I am not to thrilled with carbine style firearms, I like pistols and rifles because the carbine just didn't fit into either catagory. Too big for carry too short and inaccurate for long range work. Guess that is why I went with the shotgun to fit the same niche.

Another vote for the Ruger PC9. I really wish i'd bought one when CDNN was clearing them out. A friend did get one, put one of those Chinese made Holo sights on it, has to be one of the most fun guns to plink with this side of a class 3.

This old post sparked my interest.

A whole set up only would cost under $600. minus mags. That would be the Colt setup which requires Colt Type mags or modified UZI mags.
When I say Colt I mean the converson.
Colt mags plastic are $18 up to $35 for better COLT and brand name as cheep as $56.
UZI mags vary in price but the max on both are 32rds but the UZI mags need to modified.

Model1sales.com has the complete uppers for as little as $420, (Chrome moly barrel, 1-15 twist) and then they offer a mag block for $160 and that includes the bolt stop after last round.
Things you need to consider is hammer, buffer, bolt machinening (for reciever wear)..ect....
Read this..Its SEVERAL YEARS over 4 YEARS of advice about everything 9mm AR conversons.
You can thank me for my all day searches to find this GEM. http://www.ar15.com/lite/topic.html?b=3&f=15&t=108261

Bishop I had a DEA Colt 9mm carbine and it never impressed me, I sold it when the company started to screw with the internals because they thought mil-spec would lead to illegal activity. Once they started to make their crap versions for civilians (Blue Label) that was all for any of their products. When the AWB came through I dumped their brand and used all of the funds to gear up with better companies that understand the customer.
