Questions about President's 100 competition...

So a friend of mine in the Army informed me the other day that his unit selected him to compete. I know nothing about the competition itself, and he doesn't really know much about it either...it's a medical unit, and he's apparently the only guy who knows how to shoot straight!

But seriously, does anyone know specifically about what is and is not allowed, as far as mods to the rifle? I work for a gun shop that specializes in tactical gear and accessories, and we would like to hook him up with whatever he's allowed to use. It's a win-win situation, as far as he would get the best rifle he's allowed and we'd be able to stick his picture on our website and use him for publicity and whatnot.

So, can anyone help me out with this? What are we allowed to hook him up with?

If it's like the EIC competition I participated in a couple years ago, we had to use M16s right out of the armory. They checked to make sure the triggers were over 5 lbs, but that was it. Polishing the trigger would have helped me out alot.

I'mpretty sure that the president's 100 is more of an award that you earn more than it is a specific competition.

The President's 100 is an award earned by the top 10%, not to exceed 100 shooters in the President's Match rifle competition at Camp Perry.

This is shot with an official "service rifle" or an exact copy, like the M14/M1A and the M16/AR-15.

The rifle has to meet specific rules. Mostly the rifle has to be in Service rifle configuration EXTERNALLY.
In other words, no scopes, no non-military type stocks or sights, specific specs on trigger pull, etc.

At the National Match, the top 100 shooters are The President's 100 and get a patch to wear on the coat and usually a certificate signed by the President.

There's also a service pistol President's 100 Match.

Anybody can enter the President's 100 match, military or civilian.
It's the top 10% or 100 shooters who get the patch.

At the National Matches, there are a number of types of matches shot with the Service Rifle.
My buddy used to enter a team match known as "the battle rattle".
As I understand it, a team of three? shooters shoot as many rounds as possible in a set time. (One? or two? minutes)
One shooter shoots prone at 500 or 600 yards, one at 300? sitting? and one at 100 standing.
It's considered to be a "fun" match and is shot with ammo issued by the CMP.

The President's 100 are the top 100 competitor's from the President's Rifle Match (CMP Rules 8.2, 8.2.1, 8.2.2, 8.2.3), and it is fired with any Service rifle under Rule's 6.2.1, 6.2.2, 6.2.3, which are M1, M14/M1A, M-16/AR-15. They must conform externally, but there are many changes for accuracy that are allowed, and they must not be capable of automatic fire. They M-16/AR-15 are the most common rifle used by the top competitor's. The trigger pull weight for service rifles is a minimum of 4.5 pounds.
