  • aimpoint 1 battery DL1 3N - 2LR44 is really equivalent to 2x LR44 ? or 357

long time no post, glad AW is still around so I can ask questions, !

Anyway, after 19 years, the original battery in my Aimpoint gen1 is finally growing dim. Tech mickey mouse (as with all tech): where to find the replacement battery. Oh right, I have to order it online because as the man at the pharmacy explained to me, when Radio Shack went out, the last real onprem supply for electronic parts went away. Yeah.

Anyway, research in the same tech warrens reveals that a DL1/3N is equivalent to a 2LR44 or 2L76, so named because they're in turn equivalent to two LR44s, familiar to me from my camera. I saw those along with 357s in the pharmacy.

Anyone want to confirm that this is fact the case, both from a dimensional and also a power standpoint ? I can add 1.5 x2 == 3 and I see that the dim specs fit, but I wonder about the power that's supplied. I don't care about longevity as much as immediacy, I got caught with my battery discharged if you know what I mean by surprise (hain't touched it in a while) and would like to be powered up again quick.

Posted here because aimpoints are maybe most often an AR accessory ? No optics forum, am I misremembering that there was one once ?

Thanks all, & stay safe & healthy!

No optics forum in the past, no. We haven't ditched any of the forums over the years.

Hopefully someone else here can assist as it is beyond my ken.

I read the dimensional & electrical specs & tried it. works. main unknown I can see is the drain rate.

RR, I will try & stick around more. glad to see you're still here!

Do advise if you ever get a feel for that rate. I don't even have a poodle shooter to hang such a critter on, but one day I may go to the dark side. Meanwhile the cancellation of the shows is saving me money.

Two LR44 stacked are same diameter as a DL1/3N but about .010" shorter. 10 thou probably not a big deal in anything. To note, the DL1/3N is a lithium and LR44 are alkaline. I use Energizer 2L76 in my old Aimpoint as direct replacement for DL1/3N. It's not hard to find. I wanna say last ones I got were at Walgreen's. I leave the rifle with that old Comp M2 put up for long periods, so I'd never leave it stored with alkaline batteries....

late breaking posts ! thanks for the details, I thought I read the spec right, missed the .01" difference. Papadoc , I wanted to go to a local store. this was when covid was just starting, and I wasn't feeling anxious, but I wanted to get the embarrassment of not having the right battery for a scope off the to-do list. Prepared indeed, hadn't had time to shoot in a while.

Just get the 2L76 or similar lithium battery. Then you aren't worrying about it for another decade
