AK n ammo

I understand foreign ammo is being restricted from states that are not America friendly. I also hear those same communist nations have changed calibers and the platforms are not what we have come to know. That said does anybody see the AK platform becoming less desirable? There are a few Youtube videos stating as such and can't say that I disagree.

AK's are reliable and good enough to keep a man safe / protected but accuracy seems to be the trade off, prices also are getting rather stupid. When they were inexpensive and ammo was the same it made sense to have them. Enough of the firearms in play and accuracy can be ignored. We have all seen the ISIS videos of them throwing ammo downrange without hitting anything.

I'm not going to dump the rifle/caliber but it reminds me of how FnFAL's are being classified with the new periodic table of UnObtainIum. I can see the same happening to the AK series as we have known them.

Part of the real issue is 1) import sanctions and the leftover Bush/Clinton bans have changed both the market AND what is still importable. 2) Other nations that still use ,sell the platform have had either unfortunate" exclusive importer agreements" with certain companies(cough Century )who right when their 922 compliant export production(Draco,WASR 10etc) quality control was upgraded and standardized,immediately found that company NOT importing as many while trying to funnel their own market to their "100℅American Made C39V2/RAS47/Century Made Draco®"generally regarded as of dodgy metallurgy,cast parts without heat treatment,soft barrels and bolts,horrendously bad rivet work. Probably they have an unofficial agreement with IO in Florida to for the Floridiots to make a worse rifle to allow Century to look better by comparison AND their (rare) occasional better made(subcontracted)rifles like the AK63/AK63DS.
Right now,do believe that the post 2015 WASR10 is the best AK rifle import for the money,with the Standard or Mini Draco being the best overall(no Section 922 stupidity).
The platform is really too widespread and iconic to go away,and the 7.62x39 IS a really useful(and surprisingly efficient in a shorter barrel)to expect everyone to stop making it.
Note-the folks at Atlantic have been getting interesting Romanian import variants AND getting Polish and Romanian type builds done on outstanding parts kits by good people(like the WBP stuff).

One more addendum:We all want the O-PAP back. But the current N-PAP Underfolder seems put together better(the folks Kragujevac probably caught heat over some of the rare durability issues on the earlier N-PAP ).
Interesting enough,the M92 Pistol is STILL a great buy with good quality. Mine works great.

DSA FAL = Easy to get and better than the Century builds.

As for AKs, I can only carry one gun so I want a good gun. The Galil ACE is a great gun and the Arsenal SAM series are very good too. Both are expensive, but ya get what ya pay for.

Agreed on the Family and Arsenal offerings..my ramblings were more towards the " affordable but not shoddily made/finished" value per cost offerings.
I DID hear of some (hopefully identifiable and limited production run)of some bolts in recent SLR107's that had some issues(a milled flat was not completed prior to shipping) but that is (again,hopefully)not a regular issue.. I DO like Arsenals. I am told and the examples I have been able to handle bear it out; that the CURRENT(2015 and forward) import run of WASRs are well worth the price increase from the days gone by.
Either way, I am always taking an interest. I must truly be a sick man :-)

Wouldn't bother with the SLRs. The SAM series is milled and more collectible. I like milled better. Heavy is good, if it does not work, you can hit them with it....

Interesting note, the Arsenal military website in Bulgaria doesn't even list the SLR series for sale anymore. All of the military/police offerings are milled. No stamped AKs for sale in Bulgaria.

Some might wonder why... My guess is that Bulgarian stamped AKs could never compete with Chinese or Russian ones for price, so they focus on quality. No sane mad dictator in Africa was going to pay more for a stamped AK... but milled, that's something they might want. You, the consumer, should do the same....

I was wondering about that Arsenal issue though...the stamped SLR was known for having not the best finish in the world,but the flat on the bolt issue was new to me. I wonder if they're having more production problems?
Yeah-if I could afford an M7SF or an M7K right now, I would swoop and scoop the deal myself. THOSE are nice-we're talking Polytech Legend levels of nice plus a few upgrades. Me Likey.

If they ran out of .mil contracts for it, they are probably just dumping old parts on the USA civilian market. Like I said, go with SAM.
