The unsafe headspace issues definitely back up the AKOU information regarding the heat treatment/stretching receivers... Bet the rivet holes were oval at that point.
Doesn't affect headspace as the bolt locks up to the front trunnion. Receiver could be stretched, holes ovalized and it would still have the same headspace as the trunnion and bolt lugs gauged at.
Now...a milled receiver with soft lugs? That would affect headspace as wear on the lug faces occurred.
As of this date 4/2017... can't find a metal right side folder for my new AK for the life of me!!!! I did find one for an AMD-65, but will this fit a standard Century stamped receiver? There is a very nice synthetic left folder, but my AK has rails on the left side of the receiver for optics. Even though I'm not an optics guy I'd like to not screw that up, but then again whoever saw a folder with optics on it. I mean tacticool but not tactic-real. Folders get thrown on the floorboard or backseat. That is the point right? Thoughts?
The commie polymer left side folders have a clearance pocket for the optic rail. Those stocks do require a specific trunnion and drilling the receiver for the actuating button and the slot for the forward catch and its pivot pin. Not a task for most rookie machinists and their Dremel tool.
Take your time, mark off everything and go slow.
I used the drill press for the hole that goes through both sides and the dremil tool to make the hole on the right side a "D" shape and to trim the rear of the trunnion.
As for the underfolder, that was far more easier.
one large hole all the way through both sides in the correct area, with 2 more little holes oneach side of the large hole.
You don't need a underfolder trunnion, my NORINCO underfolder doesn't have one.
The trick with the dremil too is go slow or the tool will pop off the area you are working and run across the receiver scratching it all to hell.
