    The God of All Comfort

    2 Corinthians 1:3-11

Too often, stress from hardships builds up within our spirit, and we shut down for a while. We close the door to our heart and throw ourselves a good, old-fashioned “pity party.”

God is not a fan of pity parties. When we succumb to an overwhelming desire to feel sorry for ourselves, all we are doing is focusing intently on the problem at hand. In effect, pity becomes a magnifying glass in which our problems seem wholly insurmountable.

This is a poor method of handling difficulties for many reasons; however, the biggest hazard of this way of coping is that it leaves no room for God.

If we focus only on our problems, then we have stopped looking toward God. And with God out of the picture, how can we ever hope to handle life’s obstacles appropriately?

God is in the comfort business. He knows that there are many, many things in this life that we will simply be unable to handle on our own. Our hands just are not big enough to hold our own problems. However, His hands are more than able. This is what the Lord meant when He proclaimed, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28 ).

Comfort is available to you, if you are willing to surrender your worries and concerns to the One who is able to provide relief. Relinquish your problems to the Lord; He can handle anything that comes your way. Only His hands can work a miracle in your life.
