Question

Possibly off-topic, but does anyone know if there are plans to produce a Domestically US-made Steyr AUG after the AWB sunset??

Steyr has virtually no presence in North America, and IIRC the company recently got shufled around and now has different ownrship than it did when they introduced the AUG and Scout.

the bean counters would probably decide that there's not enough of a market here in the US to make tooling up worthwhile.

An AUG that takes AR mags will be very interesting.

Does the Aug A3 use a rail instead of a fixed optic? I have never really liked the optics on the standard model.

The A3 uses a slightly raised M1913 rail.
The scuttlebutt is that DSA is having a few problems with the stock molding. Take it for what it's worth as Internet hearsay.

The AUG sure is a funky looking weapon. Right behind the FN P90 for the ugliest IMHO. Hopefully the domestic version will take AR mags rather than overpriced AUG mags.

More reliable? I call BS. I have never had a SINGLE malfunction in any one of the 3 AUG's I have owned.

i have, full-auto ftf's.

On your rifle, or one you borrowed at a range?

Cause if it's option #2 it don't count.

some magazine in the late 80s did a severe test and the aug didnt reach the AR level of reliability the locking lugs wore down to the point that metal shavings where in the action and it was jamming after 200 rounds, IIRC the Ar started jamming after 800 or 1000 rds for comparison.

</font>
This would be hard to debate in the semi-auto world since there are so few Famas(es) out there in circulation...and the ones that are mostly sit in the back of the safe because of what they are worth. However, I have heard that the Famas is a very reliable design in combat...that is also hard to prove though, since it is a French weapon. I would imagine it needs to be strong enough to survive being dropped...

Guns and Weapons recently did a test on the Bobcat "MP-5" and found it to be just as good, if not better, than the original H&K MP-5.

So are you saying that the Bobcat MP-5 is a quality made weapon or that all gun rags only give positive write-ups on weapons because they are being paid by companies that want good press for their products?

Cool

FNM (Columbia, S.C.) may produce the P90 for the civilian market according to Shotgun News. I would buy one of these, especially if the AUG doesn't materialize.
FNM P90
