Default I hate feral cats, now a cat lover hates me

I got this email from one of my kids' former teachers that still has my address in his school board email:

Do you have any stray or feral cats in your neighborhood? They are probably going to have kittens soon if they haven't already (and they can do it several times a year if they already have). Kittens are fun until they either die in the wild or are turned into Animal Services to be euthanized. They have killed dozens of kittens already THIS WEEK. If you see this as a problem, then please read below for the FREE solution. Don't wait. Please join us this Sunday by calling to make an appointment ASAP!

Thanks.

I don't like the idea of getting spam from teachers, and this isn't the first time it's happened. A couple months ago I got an email inviting me to a political rally and that really made me steamed. I decided to respond to this one, and this is what I wrote:

Please don't send me emails about personal causes anymore. I take that back, if you ever get behind a program that provides responsible marksmen training and .22 caliber pellet guns with the express purpose of eradicating feral cats, send me an email. I'll write a check for that today.

Stray cats can be a pain in the ass. We don't have any around here, so I don't speak from experience with them. But even house cats that owners let out, usually wind up getting into trouble; unlike dogs, cats have a tendency to to go out and kill things, not so much to eat as much as they just enjoy it. Predator instincts I guess. But if strays are a problem in an area, I'm sure they need to be dealt with.

I'm not a big fan of killing animals though, because there are so many people I'd like to see euthanized before any animal just trying to survive.

Just took another 'warning' shot at a big shaggy tomcat of the neighbors. Gonna quit 'warning' soon.

Several thoughts on this.

1. My daughter, who, BTW, is a liberal to the nth degree, has gone through the processes of getting a cat from the local animal shelter, and uses it for mousing around her property.
Honestly, I like this cat she has, he is a strong contender in his AO. He routinely catches mice, and the occassionaly wood-chuck he kills, and ALWAYS bring his kill for them to see. It's funny, really, because she abhors mice. He is doing this to get approval, and to show them, (her) that he is deserving of more than to be just left outside to fend for himself. Yes, they provide him food and drink, the girls give him milk, etc., as a treat.

Ferals though, are a different thing. They've managed to (thx to people who want something, then, decide they can't handle it, and dump the thing on someone elses lap to deal with!) survive without human intervention, and they continue to reproduce. This liberal approach to catch and release is sillines, IMHO.
It's a waste of resources of a society which already has problems dealing with liberal policies. If they can't bring themselves to deal with an issue permanently, then don't get involved in issues. To just kill the animal is the permanent solution.
No, killing one will not resolve the problem, but, one bullet, or injection, is going to resolve the issue of what to do with it.
The thing is, a bullet is cheaper, and you DON"T have to spend more resources and time capturing the animal to use the "more humane" method of resolution. This is far safer because, you don't have to expose yourself needlessly to injury. A shooting is simple, and minimizes exposure as well.

Oh, and BTW, my liberal daughter, taught at the bastions of socialist recruitment centers, colleges and universities, has been having issues about her belief structures lately.
Seem she has several times been the victim of racial profiling and discrimination. This comes from working for, and with, the State.
Seems she has been passed for promotion more than several times over the span of about 6 years now, and the positions which have mandatory minimums for consideration, but, apparently, these minimums aren't weighed when non-whites are considered for the positions.
Maybe, just maybe, she will be discovering the truth about certain liberal policies when it impacts her bank account harder.

Perhaps, people will begin to see the liberal answers to lifes problems with a bit more skepticism, or, using different words, look at everything with a critical eye. Would that make a person a cynic?
I certainly hope so!

Locally our town coucil had to pass legislation to prevent the feeding of feral cats that had homesteaded near the town's Fair Grounds. It was mostly little old ladies going down every morning with food for them and there were dozens of cats. They were trapped and I expect that the majority were euthanized. It was an unfortunate fact that many were being dumped there, rather than taken to the local animal shelter where their fate was pretty much determined.

People who feed feral cats whether they realize it or not are probably also feeding the coyote population both directly and indirectly.

You ought to be around here.

My wife has three that she "adopted". I got them fixed. (There are two of them who are almost as much my buddies as they are my wife's, but they can't move indoors. Miss Sam would kill them, RFN.)

Feeding them outdoors tends to attract others, though. Which is half the reason I bought the Sig Mosquito. She works until 7 PM on Mondays, and I go out and thin the herd about three or four times a year.

Shoot, shovel, and shut up.

I have them around my place and try to get them with the trusty 22RF whenever I can. They decimate the song birds and quail, kill rabbits and carry disease. I have no patience with people that let their pets roam, especially when they come onto my property. It IS too bad that the pets have to suffer by my hand, but I am forced to do so.

No. No sense in alerting the enemy of your intentions. Keep your "plausable deniability" escape clause open for when those feral cats start turning up as worm food.

I'd send it.

Don't know much about feral cats, but I used to help a farmer that had a shoot on sight policy for them. Guess he lost too many good house cats/mousers to them, as well as other damage. He stated they were pretty ruthless when it came to hunting other animals on his property.

But as far as the email, sending it will definately get you off their agenda email list. I'd even end it with a, " they don't even taste good".

I'm sure they don't suffer much, if at all.
A good clean well-placed shot = "no suffering".

I wish the coyotes would take care of the problem, but the cats must be hard to catch! When I see the cats, I usually don't have my rifle. The coy dogs have a lot more opportunities then I do, I am sure!

Living on a farm for 30+ years, I have a rule that if a cat hangs around the barn for more than 3 days, it gets trapped and fixed. My stupid neighbors can't seem to figure out why their cats never reproduce! Same ones who wonder why the raccoons they feed are disappearing! Heh,heh.

How true!

I feed about a half-dozen "outdoor" cats that hang around in my back yard. Two of them have had kittens there and one mother cat has been "fixed"; the other is due to have it done soon. Several of them are not "feral" in the usual sense--they come to me and like to be petted. I'm working on the kittens to get them doctored up and ready for adoption. All 5 of my "indoor" cats are offspring of those 2 backyard mothers.

Well, I like the cats and vastly prefer feral cats on my property over the alternatives which are rats and moles. Dad tried to tame a few of the cats with varying degrees of success, but they would never come into the house no matter what. I am sort of glad they didnt since he had not been particularly good at cleaning the place.

If you decide to be a cat-hater, definitely watch your back for the cat lovers, they are everywhere. I met a guy in jail whose original claim to fame was breaking into a university laboratory that did animal killing type research on captured cats. He released the cats onto the campus then torched the place. Dude got love letters, money and fan mail every day in jail and there were female guards who would give him "pat down searches" which pretty closely resembled the sorts of things I used to pay strippers for...

"A cat's place is in the fan belt" would make a nice bumper sticker......
That said, I like cats. They are great for rodent control, low maintenance pets, cute as kittens. But when they go feral there isn't a more lethal, sick and evil predator known on the planet. They will decimate the local songbird, quail, rabbit, squirrel, box turtle population very quickly when they aren't fed. They WILL end up with worms, viruses, parasitic infections that can be passed to humans. They are a disease vector for tapeworms and anything fleas/ticks will carry. Kill them with extreme prejudice.
My grandmother's next door neighbor in White Hall AR, was a "cat lady"- 50+ cats on her property, in her house, garage, barn etc. The old lady had a stroke and her daughter moved her to Sheridan into a nursing home and left the cats. After they ate their way through the 50# bags of cat chow in the garage they started in on the quail, songbirds, etc. I mean wiped them out. My grandmother would spotlight them at night in her garden with her .22 (they were crapping in the nice turned soil/rows and tearing up the plantings.) Grandma would catch them in the daylight walking along the fencerow. Now here's how an old hillbilly lady does it. She would pop the last one in the line. When they froze to figure out what was happening she'd pop another one near the front. Then another one in the back. She could get 2-3 out of a group. (they seemed to travel in groups for some reason). She was hell on them with her 1919 geco karabiner single shot .22. Her neighbor across the street handled them with a 10 gauge paperhulled single shot- he'd catch a couple at a time too. They managed to thin them down in a summer to a few skinny, jumpy nervous looking little wormy things that probably didn't survive the winter since they'd hunted out everything. It's amazing what we remember from our childhood.............

My elderly widowed aunt that lived next door to me growing up had a cat problem. She bought a brand new car one year. She kept it in her detached garage which didn't have doors and had open rafters.

Another neighbor lady was a 'cat lady' and her cats would come over and climb on the car to get in the rafters. Going up and jumping down on the car scratched it up pretty badly. My aunt got real mad about it and told me she'd give me $5 for every cat I killed in her garage. $5 would buy a lot of shotgun shells, .22 bullets and pellets. I killed a couple there, but I wanted more money.

So I went into recon mode and started watching the cat lady from the pine plantation behind her house. Every day around lunch she'd come out on her back porch and yell..."Here kittty kitty kitty...here kittyyyyyy". Cats would come running from everywhere, especially under her house where she had knocked one of the ventilation grills out so they could go underneath.

Once I had gained this vital intel I waited until the lady was away from home, crawled up into the pines out back of her yard, got my pellet gun pumped and positioned and yelled "Here kitty kitty kitt...". True to form they came-arunnin. I'd pick out a cathead and pop it. Then go collect $5. Needless to say I wore out a good thing.

My aunt couldn't believe I was killing that many cats in her garage and she questioned me about it. I couldn't lie to her so I fessed up. Ended up cutting her grass one whole summer for free.
