Default Installed 64 bit Linux ISO on an old 32 bit computer........

NO warnings that is is incompatible. I actually did this by accident, but it installed!!! And works perfectly! Mint "Ubuntu".........

Everything on the "net" says that it cannot be done.......WRONG!!! I have heard that installing a 32 bit OS on a 64 bit system is OK, but NOT the other way around. Very strange if you ask me! GO LINUX!!!

What processor does your system use? As far back as the Pentium D they are all 64 bit processors.

It should not be possible to install a 64 bit OS on a 32 bit system.

Many times on older systems they were 64 bit capable but 64 bit software at that time was not yet popular or mainstream.

You might want to check your processor specs.

I looked all over for that info.....could not find it.........It is an Intel processor.

But WOW!! The CPU kinda sucks, only 2.1 meg's.....and only 3.9 gig's of RAM..........slow to load........

But I am impressed that I can even use this old computer, and it even looks better than ever!

The "You-tube" video's even seem better than ever before! WEIRD!!! On full screen!! No hesitation.......

It is possible it is a 64bit cpu.
Also many iso images have both versions on it and will install the right one.

Go to the device manager and click on 'Computer'. It should tell you if it is a x32 Based System or x64 Based System.

It said it was only 1.6 megs on the CPU............

No wonder it is a tad SLOW!! So I would ASSUME it is a 32 bit system, with THAT small of CPU!!

But it installed and worked!

That is how it must be with Linux......LOVE it!!!!!!

Of course I downloaded it on a 64 bit AMD ISO.......but it installed on an old 32 bit Intel computer! Keep that in your tobacco pouch, and smoke it later!!

this computer i am typing on is a 10 year old 1.9 ghz core II duo it originally came from the factory with either 32 bit XP or 32 bit VISTA but the hardware is concerned it is totally 64 bit compatible as far as Linux is concerned i have had 64 bit distro's running on here to test them out before but i currently run a 32 bit version of ubuntu because with the slow processor and it only having 4GB of ram the 32 bit version just runs a bit smoother. but the 64 bit version will run fine just a bit slower.
