Perhaps. A friend just passed it on to me. I figured better safe than sorry?

Absolutely! I'm just surprised no one here knew about it already.

The team made this happen twice or 3 times.

I was in a LGS yesterday where I saw a recall notice. It's somewhat heartening to see Remington Inc. finally own up and try to do the right thing.

I'm just glad I do not personally own a model 700 rifle.

Remington is going to out of a lot of money when this makes it to trial.

Maybe they should take another look at their R51 while they're at it.

Here's a quick video that shows the malfunction rather clearly.

As you can read in the poster's comments, the rifle is cleaned regularly, no aftermarket parts were added and he was using store bought ammo.

I've read some other stories over the years about these accidental discharges.

Careful with those 700s guys!

The Rem 700 series ought to be very capable even those with this fix. I wouldn't buy the cheaper 710, 714, 770 series although strangely enough they don't seem to have this problem.

I have a Timney trigger group for mine but haven't bothered installing. Guess I may as well go ahead & do that instead of sending it off.
