Default PTR91 Grenade Ring now installed!

Well, I couldn't do the machine work, but I found someone who I knew could.

Thanks to Mark at Arizona Response Systems my PTR91 is one step closer to looking like an authentic HK G3 rifle.

I sent Mark a grenade ring extension that I purchased from Robert with the dimensions of the barrel journal and the amount needed to be removed from the inside of the grenade ring to get it to fit over the muzzle and the barrel journal ahead of the three ring sight base.

I got it today and it fit perfectly. There was only the slightest amount of friction between the barrel journal and the grenade ring. Mark did an excellent job for me on this and even Parkerized the part.

I used a minimal amount of long-setting JB Weld to attach it to the barrel journal and the front of the sight base. It looks great and it looks more authentic now.

Thanks Mark!

NICE!!

It's the small details us "gun guys" love to see.

Yep. Probably no one else i know would even know what those rings are for, let alone notice if they were missing. But I know they were.

I'm still trying to find a steel clipped and pinned lower, but those things have dried up completely. That will just about complete this version of the G3.

I can always get a polymer SEF lower, but I really want to stay with steel. I'm going to wait another three months or so before going with the polymer if I can't find a steel lower.

Too bad on the trigger group. I had a brand new CETME one but I cut the ears off years ago.

Here you go brother.

http://www.gunbroker.com/item/698703879

All you have to do is grind down the INSIDE of each tab until it fits over the semi block, and then GLUE the ends of a cut up pin on each end.

Thanks, but that is a full-auto lower.

I need one with the semi-auto shelf welded in using a special jig for that purpose, and then each end of the attachment pin is welded to each of the holes on the lower ears.

It makes it look like a full-auto G3 instead of the cut off ears of the semi lower.

Without that shelf welded in, there is nothing to hold the front of the lower to the upper.

Yeah I see that now. I had to look at my CETME and see that the metal housing had an extra piece added to mate up with the semi block on the receiver.

The plastic clipped and pinned one that I have for my C93 doesn't, but instead the bottom part (inside) is cut out.

I thought that it was the trigger pack that had the interface that locked it all in, not the housing.

I tried and failed. Moral of the story, never try.

Better to try and fail than never to have tried at all.

Thanks though.

I checked HKParts and I guess nobody does a clipped and pinned steel housing.

The "try" message was a joke from the Simpsons.

Sorry, I never watched the Simpsons.

RTG and HKParts.com both sell them but have been out of stock for months. I'm on a notification list when/if they are ever in stock again.

I'll wait awhile longer, but I have a hunch I'll be changing over to polymer to get the correct lower.

It ain't my place to say this bot I got 2 cents I can spare so here it is.

We used to routinely run into problems at the Park just like this. Not trying was NOT an option. My foreman's answer usually was just hit the problem with a BIGGER HAMMER.
Could just be you ain't got a big enuf hammer. A Case 580L makes for a great hammer.

About your CETME. I think (as it was back in the early to mid 1980s I had an FFL for 4 years.) Usedta get flyers brochures small catalogs and the like from gun wholesalers NOS parts stocks WWII surplus just all manner of the COOLEST Man Cave Stuff morning noon and night. NEVER tired of it. I'd be turning a page and on the next 2 pages was the Centerfold Of My Dreams. Light Machineguns like the CETME Thompson's BARs German 9mm burp guns our own .45 Grease Guns Sten Guns in the WWII calibers+ 223 556 762 765. Jap rifles too. Every type of all countries sidearms from say WWI and on. Seems like they even had Henry Bowman's Swiss Solothurn 20mm Anti Materiel Rifle including live ammo.
