Default What is the best folding stock for a Mossberg 500?

I am considering purchasing a folding type stock for my Mossberg 500 pistol grip shotgun.

The commonly available choices seem to be:

The commonly available Advanced Technology M4 style stocks that can accept a side saddle shell holder.

The Advanced Technology stock that is over folding. Made of plastic and looks flimsy.

The Specops Folder Stock. Sold by Black Hawk. Looks like it makes the shotgun extremely bulky when folded.

Specops M4 type stock sold by Black Hawk. Looks just like the Advanced Technology Stock, but made by Knoxx Industries.

The Choate Machine & Tool overfolding stock (Looks a lot more sturdy than the Advanced Technology Stock)

I have heard that The Advanced Technology stocks are not the best quality. Anybody bought one of the stocks from Black Hawk? Are they any good? I kind of like the over folder from Choate. Choate seems to have a better rep than Advanced Technology. Anybody have any recommendations?

I have used the Choate Machine & Tool sidefolding stocks on 870's and Mossy 500's and like them. Had a top folder on a 870 for a short while and it was ok.

Were I buying, it'd have to be a Blackhawk M-4 style with the recoil reducer. Not cheap but your shoulder will love you! The hotter, heavier the load you shoot the better they work.

Paintballmagnet, yeah, those are about a hundred and fifty bucks. Do they really work well?

Yes they work well with slugs and buckshot, not so much with light dove loads. Older I get the more I appreciate not having heck beat out of me shooting a shotgun. If you're ever needing to fire over one or two rounds, the Knoxx/BH stock is the best thing going.

The Knoxx is the weird looking wire over folder, I think.

Actually there are or were three models. The folding wire model you mentioned which I wouldn't own, the M-4 type that doesn't fold as you asked and a conventional type with a skirt that hides the spring mechanism. Bruce, Choate products are dang near indestructable. A way to save a few bucks (if you can live with the collapsable M-4 style instead of a true folder) would be to buy a BH non-recoil model and a Limbsaver slip on pad made for the M-4 stock.
