Your blood sugar levels might also be off a bit. Diabetes can cause periodic eye or vision problems.

      PB,
Have you tried a different scope on there to see if you get the same results? That would at least eliminate the possibility of having a scope issue if your grouping return to normal.

It's all fun and eyes until someone looses a game!

if the rifle has iron sights..remove the scope..and fire a group at 50 and 100 meters... and compare it to one fired with the scope.

I know that that scope has a good name...but I never trust scopes.
        Had too many go out.

Sorry, this is a rather old post, haven't bothered to respond with what I finaly did to resolve my problem. First I sent the scope back to Leupold again, they went through it and as always sent it back, free of charge, no questions asked. Tried shooting again, did better but still not great. Decided to change targets, I'd been using those 3" orange dots with the small black centers, as soon as I fired a group with the other targets my shots went well under an inch! For some reason those bright flourescent dots were playing hell with my eyes, now all is good again. (for how long?)

Glad to hear it...nothing as annoying as bad groups or as satisfying and fixing the problem.

Just one time in my life I'd like to own a .308 rifle that will consistently shoot 1/2 MOA. I have a 7mm Rem mag that will do so but it ain't near as much fun shooting or loading at the .308. (plus it costs quite a bit more)

If you can still find one, I would bet on the K-31.
I perfer my Mausers, but they could not match my K-31 with Swiss ammo right out of the box.

What I like to do when testing a very accurate rifle is adjust the point of impact to be about 3 inches lower than the point of aim at 100 yds.
That way you are not blowing out your bullseye with bullet holes and trying to find the center of the bullseye which is now peppered with holes.
Keep your bullseye very small and defined, like a quarter inch black dot, then you can keep your crosshairs on the exact same spot every shot and the group will print just below it, when you are happy with the groups then readjust your p.o.a. to coincide with your p.o.i.

what would be the point of 1/2 MOA 308? Under field conditions, nobody can delliver that sort of hitting on target. 308's no varmint round, and its relatively low velocity means it's not really much for use beyond 600m or so, either. It won't reliably expand a big game softpoint much beyond 1/4 mile, either.

All my .308's are 1/2 MOA with match ammo. 147 grain FMJ? No.

I'm gonna have to make major changes to ever achieve 1/2 M.O.A. Rifle, load, possibly scope too. I can do an inch or just under with regularity but as we all know that extra half inch separates the men from the boys. The real question is how bad I really need that 1/2 inch shaved off my group size, I'm not a competitor of any sort, most of my shooting is done either deer hunting or getting ready for same.
