  • 50 Cal scope, rings for under 1k?

    Hey,

I have a friend that is thinking of buying a 50 cal, and I told him I would help him research to see how much money he would lay out. Does anyone have a few recommendations for a scope and rings for under or around 1k?

any helpful hints, links, etc would be appreciated. Thanks!

imho....the only way to go is etched glass reticle........yes wire reticles will work ...and hold up....mostly but unless it got a warranty...you will really frustrate yourself.....

i have had swaro glass glued to rings......

quality matters.......both in rings and scopes

Ok, so what about scope and rings for under 1500?

If someone can give me a few exact models to check out, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Look for a used Nightforce 5.5-22x50 or a new one which will run about $1400. Then get some Seekins rings www.seekinsprecision.com for about $109.

Well, odd things do happen. I have an AR50 with a $99 Simmons that keeps me in the 1000 yard competion. My beer tab shim under the front of the scope bodes well during firing. My last adjustment was drop 70 clicks from 1000 to 600 yards.

Mr Mitch is telling the truth, he has a Simmons that has held up to a few hundred 50 cal rounds so far! He is the exception rather than the norm though, kinda odd! Not meaning you Mitch, referring to the scope!

My suggestion would be a Leupold LR 6-24 or 8-36. You can snatch them sometimes in the 600.00 range. Mine have held up well on the 50's and Leupold has fantastic customer service. You will need this eventually if you plan on shooting much, the brakes play hell on the scopes. Hope this helps

Considering long range scopes, is it possible to get by without a spotter? Is the field of view in the scope visual enough to see results of a fire?

Yes, but it has to be a quality scope of HIGH power when you get beyond 600 yards.

This is my Bushmaster BA-50, .50 BMG rifle. I'm running a Bushnell 3200 Elite Tactical 40 MM with Mil-Dot reticule. The rings are from Smith Enterprises, and are wire EDM'd from 4140 steel, as is the riser. The whole scope and mounting setup comes in at right around $850.00 give or take. It's a good, solid, reliable set up for a .50 BMG that won't break the bank. Bushnell is making some very good glass these days. I have a total of 5 of these scopes mounted on everything from .308's, .300 Win. Mag's., and a .50. All of them have given excellent performance. Bill T.
